Would you like to spend an affordable all-inclusive vacation in a newly built resort located in an upcoming trendsetting destination? In this case, Viva Miches by Wyndham could be the perfect option for you, as it is surrounded by pristine beaches and stunning countryside with authentic experiences (and that’s no marketing speech – Miches indeed is a beautiful new hidden gem perfect for adventurers and explorers). We have stayed at this new resort and are happy to share our experience with you in this Viva Miches Resort review.
Miches is the new tourism destination north of Punta Cana. To find out more about this area, check out the full Miches Travel Guide.
What’s special?
The main attraction of Viva Miches by Wyndham is the location. Miches is a new tourism destination (check out my full travel guide here) a bit more than an hour north of Punta Cana, which features pristine (and mostly seaweed-free) beaches, authentic experiences, stunning landscapes, absolutely no mass tourism (as opposed to Punta Cana) and completely new resorts. The first resort in the entire area only opened in 2020, and the second one in 2023 – Viva Miches is No. 3 and only debuted at the end of 2024. Hence, everything is brand-new, you have a mile-long beach all for yourself and can explore the area thanks to the included and good-quality watersports equipment of the resort.
Furthermore, being based in Miches gives you the big advantage of being much closer to some of the best natural attractions in the Dominican Republic such as Montaña Redonda, Los Haitises National Park or whale-watching. This cuts some of the excursion transfer times significantly shorter compared to when coming from Punta Cana.
And, there is another big plus: you can see the sunset right from the resort – that’s pretty rare with all the east-facing all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana and the surrounding area.
At a glance: THE BEST of Viva Miches
In case you don’t have the time to read the entire Viva Miches by Wyndham review and can’t read all the experiences we had at this new resort (even though I would highly recommend going through the whole blog post), here are a few quick recommendations for your trip:
Location: where is Viva Miches by Wyndham?
As mentioned in the introduction, Viva Miches Resort is located close to the sleepy fishing town of Miches with its 20.000 inhabitants. It’s approx. 1 hour north of most of the other resorts in Punta Cana or a bit less than 90 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. It’s an easy drive over a well-maintained and still pretty new highway.
Due to the longer distance, airport transfers to Viva Miches are more expensive compared to the regular airport transfers to Punta Canas’ resorts. A private trip should set you back to around 100 USD per vehicle per way. Shared transfers are currently not available, as the flow of tourists is still too small to offer airport shuttles on a shared basis.
The area of Miches is famous for its pristine beaches, authentic countryside and easy access to off-the-beaten-track adventures and hidden gems, which I tell you more about in detail further below in the excursion section of this Viva Miches review.

Overview – a virtual walk through the resort
Viva Miches Resort is one of the smaller all-inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic. Despite its approx. 500 rooms, it’s easily walkable in 3-4 minutes as it is super compact. The way from the lobby to the beach is only around 1000 feet. No room is further away than 550 feet from the beach.
Let me show you all aspects of the resort so you know what to expect.
When you arrive at the hotel, you’ll be greeted by an airy and tropical lobby with plenty of super comfy seating areas.
There are hardly any people here during most times of the day – maybe because there is no lobby bar. However, the next bar is just a 30-second walk away, as this is where the central entertainment plaza is, the place where all the evening activities are happening.
This area is also where all the restaurants are, hence especially during and after meal times, you can always find plenty of people hanging around here. There are also a couple of shops, a sports bar (with pool tables), the kids’ club and the teens club around here.
Once you pass this area, you find a beautiful coffee shop with a view over the entire interior of the resort. Here is where the accommodation building begins, with the 500 rooms being separated into three buildings on 3 to 4 floors.
From here, it’s just another 60 or 90 seconds until you reach the pool and beach area. The area in between is just a big patch of lawn, but I am sure this gets more tropical once the resort gets a bit older and the typical Caribbean vegetation has time to grow.
The pool area consists of 2 main pools, 2 small jacuzzis and a third pool with a swim-up bar. The pool snack restaurant, open until 6.30 pm every day, is right next to it.
In case that’s important for you: the pool at Viva Miches has a barrier-free entry, hence it can be accessed without any steps. The property in general is very wheelchair-friendly as all important amenities are on the ground level, there are no unnecessary stairs or steps and the distances between the different places (beach, pool, restaurants, rooms, etc.) are very short.
The beach at Viva Miches
Once you pass the pool area, you have hit the beach – a beautiful stretch of golden sand with nothing else around. Viva Miches is the only resort in this area. Zemi Miches is around a mile away, Marriott Miches even 2 miles, hence you have the entire beach on your own.
The beach at Viva Miches is pristine, beautiful and perfect for sunbathing. Furthermore, the bay is extremely calm and very well protected. There shouldn’t be high waves at any time, the ocean was completely flat when we visited. Plus, the beach is also pretty much protected from seaweed as it faces the west – seaweed usually comes from the east.
Therefore, it’s a pretty great option especially when you’re traveling with kids (and want them to enjoy a calm ocean without any waves).
While in terms of seaweed and waves the Viva Miches beach is much better than most resort beaches in Punta Cana, there are three more things to note:
– to the left and the right of the resort beach, the beach is absolutely virgin, which comes with some natural flotsam
– it’s not a white sand beach – it’s more golden
– the water in the entire area (not only at Viva Miches but also at Zemi or Marriott) is kind of blueish – but not crystal-clear
The beach at Viva Miches is usually without waves and also without seaweed.
The calm bay also makes it a perfect spot for kayaking, stand-up paddling and using the resort’s Hobie cats, as it’s much easier compared to sometimes windy and choppy Bavaro Beach in the centre of Punta Cana.
Note that occasionally, there can be sandflies at the beach, especially in the morning and around sunset.

The rooms at Viva Miches
As already mentioned in this Viva Miches Resort review, expect a compact resort with a bit less than 500 rooms. All rooms are completely new, with a simple modern design, with all the basic amenities you need, such as a (stocked) minibar, an extremely large flat-screen TV, balcony/terrace, bathroom amenities, WiFi, seating area and more.
In total, there are 6 room categories:
- Comfort Room
- Superior
- Superior Ocean View
- Splash Oceanview Room
- Oceanfront Room
- Splash Oceanfront Room
We enjoyed our Splash Oceanfront Room – of course, just look at this stunning location.
But also the interior was spacious and made for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
But also if you decide on a Superior or a Comfort Room, you get a modern room with all the amenities you need.
All of Viva Miches’ rooms come with one king-size or 2 Queen beds, air conditioning, flat screen TV, phone, bathroom with shower, hair dryer, balcony, safe box, fridge with welcome package, iron and ironing board. Cribs, accessible rooms and connecting rooms are available upon request.
Here are the different room categories explained:
Comfort Room: as described above
Superior Room: as described above + garden view
Superior Ocean View: as described above + ocean view
Splash Ocean View Room: as described above + ocean view + plunge pool on the terrace
Oceanfront Room: as described above, larger rooms, additional day beds are available, located directly at the oceanfront side of the building
Splash Oceanfront Room: similar to the Oceanfront Room, but with a larger private pool
As you can see, Viva Miches by Wyndham keeps their rooms very simple in terms of categories. They don’t sell 20-room categories like other resorts and they also don’t have a Preferred Club or VIP Club – everyone can enjoy the same amenities and services here at the resort.

Booking: how to find the best prices for this resort
Despite Viva Miches’ modern approach, the resort is one of the more affordable resort options in the Dominican Republic. Even after all the current hotels in Miches, which are under construction, have been finished and will be open to the public, it wouldn’t surprise me if Viva Miches Resort would still be the most affordable all-inclusive resort in Miches. This being said, you shouldn’t come with 5-star luxury high-end resort expectations. The price value here at Viva Miches by Wyndham is excellent in our opinion, especially if you get a great deal.
Currently, nightly rates at Viva Miches for a night with an all-inclusive meal plan are selling at around 200-250 USD during the low season and 300-375 USD during the high season. If you’re not sure when to travel, check out this article about the best time to visit Punta Cana.
As resort prices can vary widely, it is always recommended to check different pages. Besides your local travel agent, you should check the following pages, including the website of Viva Miches. There is hardly one specific page that always has the best deal, it rather pays out to compare the booking conditions or if any of those have a current promotion running.
You can also check if Viva Miches is cheaper as a package, but most US package tour operators don’t have Viva Miches featured yet – some European tour operators do.
Restaurants and bars at Viva Miches Resort
Let’s talk about food in our extensive Viva Miches review. Considering that it is a rather affordable resort, the food met our expectations on some occasions, but on some other occasions absolutely blew us away. The octopus was to die for, so was the tuna tartar with avocado.
In total, Viva Miches has 5 restaurants and 4 bars, plus a coffee shop, which are all included in your stay. You can choose between the following restaurants and bars:
- El Lago restaurant (buffet, international)
- Latin Fusion restaurant (à-la-carte, Latin cuisine)
- Fusion Oriental (à-la-carte + Teppanyaki show cooking, Asian cuisine)
- Atlantis (à-la-carte, seafood)
- Mediterranean (à-la-carte, Mediterranean cuisine)
- 4 bars (main bar (next to buffet and entertainment plaza), swim-up bar, pool bar, beach bar)
- Coffee shop (with freshly brewed coffee and pastries)
My expert tip: make sure to ask for freshly squeezed orange juice at the coffee shop.

The buffet is exactly what you can expect from a well-sorted all-inclusive buffet in an affordable resort. You have everything you need for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a very large selection for all international tastes, with some specialties.
Our opinion: Personally, we liked the breakfast and lunch buffet a bit more than the dinner buffet, but there is no specific reason for that, just our experience. I still feel though that the thematic nights for dinner could be a bit more distinctive and creative.
For the à-la-carte restaurants, we loved the Atlantis restaurant, this was a truly spectacular dinner with exceptional quality. All the seafood, ceviches, octopus, fish and also the sides such as cauliflower puree were amazing.
The Latin dinner wasn’t our favorite menu-wise, but only because the menu was very limited for us as non-meat eaters. That’s natural – because many Latin countries love their meat. Food and service were good though and the decoration of the restaurant was well done. And, we loved the tostones, something you don’t find too often in the resort.
The Asian menu came with a super interesting mix of dishes from different Asian countries and was mostly very well done. Especially the salmon was top notch – both the taste and the decoration of the plate, it absolutely stunned us and was much more than you can expect from an all-inclusive resort.
A cool thing to note about the Asian restaurant: like most restaurants in Punta Canas’ resorts, the one at Viva Miches has a teppanyaki table where show cooking is provided. This is usually pretty noisy and smelly, providing not the best conditions for a relaxed and intimate à-la-carte dinner at the same restaurant. However, Viva Miches Resort by Wyndham solved it pretty cool as most of the à-la-carte tables from the Asian restaurant are in a separate area, divided by walls and a door.
For the à-la-carte dinner, you do need reservations, which you can request after check-in with guest service from 9 am to 3 pm each day.
For bookings with 4 nights, you are entitled to 1 dinner reservation.
For bookings with 5 nights, you are entitled to 2 dinner reservations.
For bookings with 6 nights, you are entitled to 3 dinner reservations.
For bookings with 7 nights or more, you are entitled to 4 dinner reservations.
As in all resorts, drinking water is available 24/7. However, Viva Miches takes a different approach and provides you with an elegant refillable bottle for your stay and provides water filling stations throughout the resort, avoiding approx. 1 million (!) plastic bottles a year (that’s my own guess, but it could be pretty accurate – 500 rooms x 2 people x 3 small water bottles a day x 365 days). I love the idea and hope other resorts will do the same.
The drinks at Viva Miches are mostly local brands, so don’t expect too much in terms of fine cocktails or fancy ingredients. But all the typical resort cocktails are available here.

Entertainment and service
Remember that I told you that this resort is located in a completely new area of the Dominican Republic where – so far – hardly any tourism has been developed? You can also feel this when it comes to the service.
Talking from our experience, the service at Viva Miches was absolutely perfect for us. Of course, as the resort had only been open for a bit more than 5 months when we visited, you could feel these little flaws and errors here and there, but we were positively surprised by how far they have already improved their operational processes and service standards.
The main difference we could note here was that the service and personal interactions are more authentic, less standardized and more coming from the heart instead of from a pre-learned script which has been repeated a thousand times. Some people might like this, some not, but it definitely guarantees a more genuine connection with the resort workers and local staff.
When it comes to entertainment, Viva Miches also offers the typical day- and nighttime entertainment, even though it differs a bit from the regular resorts in Punta Cana. It tends to be a bit more active on the one hand, but on the other hand, there are also some quieter times – so don’t expect a full 24/7 entertainment here, as there is also a lot of stuff available which can keep you busy by yourself.
Especially the choice of water sports is impressive. While most resorts in Punta Cana only have a few old kayaks, Viva Miches has a big array of completely new kayaks (at least a dozen of them or more), pretty decent stand-up paddle boards (also at least a dozen), 3 or 4 Hobie cats as well as a couple of boogie boards (not sure what the boogie boards were for as there are really no waves).
We took the kayaks and SUPs a couple of times and had an extraordinary time, especially as there are so many small beaches and beautiful places to explore nearby. Particularly the small stretches between Playa Esmeralda and Zemi Miches are incredibly marvelous, but also the beaches behind Club Med Miches are extremely gorgeous – I haven’t seen places like this very often in the Dominican Republic.
What’s special about the watersports activities and rentals (included) at Viva Miches is that they’re open from 09:00/09:30 to 5:30 pm. In most resorts in Punta Cana that’s only from 10 am to 4 pm, limiting your options significantly.
Besides the watersports activities, Viva Miches offers a newly-constructed paddle court, a tennis court, pool billiards, archery, beach volleyball, and boule as well as further beach and pool games.
And, as a special feature, Viva Miches has a super cool gym on the 4th floor with an amazing view. Yes, it’s not air-conditioned, but the ocean breeze will keep most of your sweat away and highlight your stay with one of the best gym views you will ever find.
Preferred Club (VIP Level)
There is no Preferred Club Level (or VIP Club, Platinum Club, or Deluxe Level – call it however you want) at Viva Miches – all guests enjoy the same amenities.
As it is a stand-alone resort, there are also no interchanging facilities with other hotels nearby.

Excursions from Viva Miches
The excursions are another thing that makes Viva Miches stand out from most of the well-known all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana.
While some attractions like Saona Island, Scape Park Cap Cana or Isla Catalina are much further from Miches (and I would not recommend visiting them as the transfer times are just too long), you have the big advantage of much shorter transfer times to hidden gem attractions such as Montaña Redonda, Los Haitises National Park, whale-watching in the Bay of Samaná, exploration tours of the Samaná peninsula or the highest waterfall in the Dominican Republic, Salto de la Jalda. You save at least two hours of transfer time (one hour each way) compared to when coming from Punta Cana.
The closest attractions from Viva Miches are the following:

Excursions from Viva Miches can be booked online here* or right at the resort with the resort’s official excursion companies.
Summary – for whom is it the perfect resort and when you should NOT go …
We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Viva Miches by Wyndham, mainly because we were stunned by nature’s beauty here (not that we have not been in the area before, but the area is still beautiful every time we visit) and were positively surprised by the quality of the resort, especially considering its low price tag.
Viva Miches Resort is the perfect option for your holiday in the Dominican Republic (check here to read about how to save money during an all-inclusive vacation) if:
- you’d like to explore new areas besides the core area of Punta Cana
- love the authentic vibe and the beautiful nature around
- you want something more authentic and less touristy than Punta Cana
- you’re looking for a pristine beach without waves, seaweed, and hardly any beach vendors
- love to explore the surrounding area (by foot, kayak, or through individual excursions)
- are looking for a compact resort with everything in very short walking distance
- love sunsets
It is probably not the perfect resort for you, if
- you only want to stay within your resort 24/7 without leaving it for a couple of hours
- you are looking for a high-end resort with top-notch luxury amenities (check out these top luxury resorts instead)
- you want a resort close to the airport (check out these Cap Cana resorts instead, super close to the airport)
- you prefer reservation-free dining and hand-crafted premium cocktails
